Bonnadean “Bonnie” Elizabeth (McIntire) Cather Carter

Bonnadean “Bonnie” Elizabeth (McIntire) Cather Carter was born on Nov.15, 1939, in Unger, W.V., to Melvin and Ruth (Michael) McIntire. She grew up in Winchester, Va., and graduated from James Wood High School in 1958. She continued her education and earned an associate degree. In 1958, Bonnie married Robert Cather, and they were blessed with two children, Lisa and Robert. Later, she married Richard Carter and gained a stepson, Jeffrey. Bonnie treasured her family. Her grandchildren were her world, and family was always the most important thing to her. She cherished the time spent together, making memories that will remain with her loved ones for generations to come. Bonnie devoted much of her working life to public service. Early in her career, she worked with Social Services before beginning a twenty-six year career with FEMA, where she served as a Personnel Director. She retired in 1993. Bonnie loved being part of a team and took pride in serving others. A woman of many interests and a strong spirit, Bonnie enjoyed playing softball and was an excellent pitcher. She was a devoted dog lover, especially fond of her beloved Sheltie, Rocky. Bonnie was known for being headstrong and living life on her own terms, qualities that remained with her throughout her life. Bonnie was a longtime member of the Women of the Moose Lodge in Winchester, Via. In 2015, she proudly received her Star after progressing through all levels of the organization. Her faith was also an important part of her life. She attended Burnt Factory Church in Virginia and, more recently, Mountain Grove Family Church.
Bonnie passed away peacefully on Aug. 26, 2026, in Mountain Grove, at the age of 86 years. She leaves behind her daughter,, Lisa K. Cather, and Leonard Diehl, of Mountain Grove; son, Robert A. Cather Jr. and Teresa, of Stephenson, Va.; grandchildren, Taryn Violette, Ashley Allen and Schuyler, Jimmy McFarland and Jody, Matthew Cather, and Brianna McCain and Billy; great-grandchildren, Lorelei, Eliana, Evelynn, Liam. Landon. Aria and Tayo; extended family and friends. Preceding her in death were her husbands, Richard Carter and Robert Cather; stepson, Jeffrey Carter; parents, Melvin and Ruth (Michael) McIntire; and brothers, Sylvester, Donnie and Bobby. Bonnie leaves behind a legacy of service, determination, laughter, love and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Celebration of Life Services were held Sep. 2, 2026, at the Mountain Grove Family Church, Mountain Grove, with Pastor Terry Ramming officiating. Bonnie will be laid to rest at Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville, Va. The family was served by Wilson Mortuary of Salem.
