Mansfield Lady Lions look to improve win total

After compiling just five wins last season, the Mansfield Lady Lions’ softball team has its focus on doubling or even tripling their win total in 2025 with the hopes of playing the best softball in the postseason.
“I truly believe that this group is hungry for more,” said Mansfield head coach Hannah Campbell.
“They have put a lot of work in over the offseason and have shown a tremendous amount of growth. This group works hard and I am excited to watch them compete on the diamond this spring.”
On the mound this season, Addie Jones will be the ace for the Lady Lions. Meanwhile, Kiersten Garrison and Brooklyn Dugger are also expected to eat some innings.
Returning this season are seniors Laikyn Ball (3B, 2B, SS), Kiersten Garrison (2B/P) and Charleigh Clark (RF).
The rest of line-up is currently featuring Mylee Sullivan (SS), Emma Matney (LF), Kayley Kingery (catcher), Madisyn Bennett (CF), Cayley Young (RF) and Rylee Dixon (RF).
Offensively, Coach Campbell said her team will compete in every game and win games. As for their defense, the focus has been on the little things like making good throws, fielding a ground ball and catching a pop fly.
“We have put the girls in pressure situations during practice in hopes that when it comes to game play they are ready for any type of pressure situation,” Coach Campbell said.
Starting out 2-4
The Lady Lions have opened their season with a 2-4 record.
Their first win came against Conway in their season opener as they crushed the Lady Bears, 24-6.
Mansfield scored 19 runs in the top of the second inning to pull away for good.
Kingery had an inside-the-park grand slam followed by Jones’ inside-the-park solo home run.
Kingery finished with six RBIs and four runs scored; Young added three RBIs and three runs scored; Dixon had two RBIs and two runs scored; Ball tallied two RBIs and four runs scored; Jones had one RBI and scored three times; Sullivan had one RBI and scored twice; and both Bennett and Garrison scored twice.
On the mound, Jones tossed three innings and gave up two earned runs on two hits with five strikeouts and five walks.
This past Saturday, the Lady Lions defeated Crane, 12-8 after pulling away with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Jones had three hits, three RBIs and scored three runs; Matney had three RBIs; Ball added two RBIs and scored four times; Young had two RBIs and one run scored; Dugger added two RBIs; and Garrison scored twice.
Jones tossed three innings and gave up four earned runs on three hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Dugger tossed three innings and gave up four earned runs on nine hits with one strikeout and three walks.
In their other contests, they lost to Gainesville, 10-3. They also fell 21-9 to Houston and 13-3 to Plato.
Kingery led the team with two RBIs and one run scored in the loss to the Lady Bulldogs. Jones paced the Lady Lions with two RBIs in the loss to Plato.
Jones then hit a grand slam in the loss to Houston as she had four RBIs and scored one run. Ball added three RBIs and scored twice.
Another loss was a 16-0 contest with Spokane.
