Frank Everett Vancil

Frank Everett Vancil was born on June 17, 1934, in Norwood, in Wright County’s Snyder Hollow, to Frank Willard and Lola “Wilma” (Allen) Vancil. He passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in Springfield, surrounded by his loving family. In his early years, Frank and his family moved between Missouri and California six times. He attended school in Fresno, Calif., and held his first job there. Later, he moved to Kansas City, Kan., where he worked at KATS Drugstore. It was there that he met his first wife, Eleanor Siemsen. They married in 1953 and had two children, Barbara and Bob. After their marriage ended, Frank met and married Barbara Clark-Sanders in 1967, blending their families and beginning a new chapter. Frank was a driven entrepreneur with a keen eye for opportunity. He founded Pioneer Amusement, providing pool tables, pinball machines, and jukeboxes to local establishments. Recognizing changing trends, he later sold that business and established Pioneer Sales, specializing in CB radios and equipment. Frank’s commitment to his community extended beyond business. He served as a well-known deputy sheriff, a juvenile officer, and eventually became a judge, ultimately retiring as Chief Juvenile Officer. His dedication to helping young people led him to establish and run the Wright County Children’s Home in Norwood, a legacy of care and compassion that impacted countless lives. After retiring, Frank cherished time spent with family and friends. He celebrated his 90th birthday last June at his home, surrounded by nearly every member of his family, a moment that brought him immense joy. Frank was a man of unwavering integrity, honesty and compassion. He lived a full and meaningful life, touching the hearts of all who knew him. On March 24, 2025, just two days before his passing, Frank made the most important decision of his life. Surrounded by love and guided by two of his grandchildren, Shane and Carrie, he asked for forgiveness of his sins and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He was saved and baptized, bringing peace and comfort to both him and his family as he prepared for his heavenly home.
Frank is survived by his son, Bob Vancil, and daughter-in-law, Joy, of Norwood; his son, Terry Sanders, and daughter-in-law, Dede, of Branson; and his son-in-law, David Gray, of Norwood. He was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren, Shane Gray, Carrie (John) Alexander, Brea (Ben) Negron, Shaun (Kinder) Gray, Jamie Vancil, Jennifer Shortino, Tabi (Will) Rodden, Shelby (Nikki) Gray, Evan (Peyton) Sanders, Justin (Megan) Locke, Amy Locke, Aaron (Jessie) Locke, Miranda Vancil, Devon Locke and Zaydin Vancil. He was also blessed with 30 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Wilma Vancil; his sisters, Jeanie Finch and Evelyn Vancil; his wife, Barbara Vancil; his son, Leland Sanders; his daughter, Barbara Gray; his grandson, Austin Sanders; his granddaughter, Magic Dawn Vancil; and his great-great-granddaughter, Anastasia Clasen. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 31, 2025, at the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home in Mountain Grove, with Bro. John Williams officiating. Burial was in the Thomas Cemetery of Norwood.
