Mansfield Lady Lions end skid with three game winning streak

Mansfield seniors honored on Senior Night included Cali Lemons, Haven Tripp, Gentry Alsup and Elly Williams.
In the past couple of weeks, the Mansfield Lady Lions’ basketball team hit a rough stretch where they lost four straight games.
They reversed that trend last week though when they won three games in four days to move their record to 14-10 overall on the season.
Their most impressive win came on Feb. 11 when they defeated Bakersfield for the second time this season, 51-48.
Mansfield got the ball to post player Elly Williams in this match-up and the moved paid off in a big win.
She first scored eight of her team’s 10 points in the opening quarter for a. 10-8 lead.
She added six more before halftime as Mansfield held a one-point edge at halftime.
Williams even added a 3-pointer and scored eight of Mansfield’s 15 points in the third quarter. Kayley Kingery added a 3-pointer in that frame.
Williams then finished off Bakersfield in the fourth with another four points.
Haven Tripp and Addie Jones also scored four points in that frame to lift Mansfield to a road win in the battle of two Lady Lions’ teams.
Williams scored a team-high 26 points; Tripp had 10; Jones scored seven; Kingery added five points; and Cali Lemons scored three points.
Mansfield opened the week by picking up a 59-42 victory at home over Galena.
The Lady Lions opened the game with a 15-5 run as Lemons scored six points.
In the second quarter, Tripp scored six points and Lemons added another five in a 17-point frame to take a 13-point lead at halftime.
Williams came up big in the third quarter with eight points and Lemons scored six more to go up 14.
Mansfield’s defense then held the Lady Bears to just nine points in the fourth as they won the game by 17.
Lemons scored a team-high 19 points; Williams added 17; Tripp had 14; Jones scored seven; and Kingery had two points.
Mansfield’s third straight win came when they hosted Cabool and dominated the Lady Bulldogs in a 68-35 victory.
The Lady Lions’ defense held Cabool to nine points or less in the final three quarters.
Mansfield opened the contest with a 22-point first quarter as both Tripp and Jones scored seven points and Lemons added six.
Tripp added six more points in the second quarter to help her team to a 36-22 halftime edge.
Mansfield opened the second half on a 15-4 run as Lemons scored nine points.
Tripp added seven points in a 17-point fourth quarter to help seal the big win. Lemons finished with a team-high 26 points; Tripp added 22; Jones scored 12; Williams had four; and both Chloe Napier and Kingery scored two points.
