Norwood Pirates get Homecoming win over Gainesville

The Norwood Pirates’ basketball team hosted Summit Conference foe Gainesville for a Homecoming match-up last Friday night. Norwood, who is currently undefeated in the Summit Conference, continued their journey towards a possible title this season with a 75-38 victory.
Peyton McDaris provided the early spark with six of his team’s 14 points in the opening quarter.
Pierce Lawson came up big with seven points while Carder Kelly added four in an 18-point second quarter to help the Pirates take a 32-25 lead into halftime.
Norwood completely ran away from the Bulldogs in the third quarter as Noah Drake sored seven points and Lawson added another four points during an 18-8 run.
In the final frame, Kelly made two, 3-pointers for 11 points to help the Pirates pull away for the 37-point win.
Five different Pirates scored in double figures in the win. Kelly scored a team-high 15 points; Lawson added 14; both McDaris and Drake scored 11 points; Cooper Vaughan had 10 points; Andrew Bradshaw had six points; Gary Williams had five points; while Gunner Bradshaw scored two points.
Earlier in the week, the Pirates hosted another Summit Conference foe, the Fordland Eagles, and picked up a convincing 89-27 win. Norwood opened the game with a 30-8 run as Kelly made three, 3-pointers for 11 points while Andrew Bradshaw, Gunner Bradshaw and Drake each scored four points. The Pirates added another 29 points in the second quarter as Cooper Vaughan scored eight points and Kelly hit a pair of 3-pointers to give the Pirates a 59-16 halftime edge.
In the third quarter, Cooper Vaughan scored eight points as the Pirates would go on to win the game by 62 points.
Kelly scored a team-high 20 points; Cooper Vaughan had 18; Lawson scored 15; Drake added 12; Andrew Bradshaw scored eight points; McDaris had six points; Gunner Bradshaw scored four points; while Carson Vaughan, Laken Coatney and Williams each scored two points.
