Lady Eagles take second in Cabool

Hartville’s Kinley Cryer launches a 3-point shot in the Lady Eagles’ game against rival Mansfield in the Cabool Classic finals.
The Hartville Lady Eagles’ basketball team did enter last week’s Cabool Invitational Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
Unfortunately, after winning their first two games, they lost in the championship game to rival Mansfield, 51-33. (Information from the championship game is included in Mansfield’s article.)
To reach the title game, the Lady Eagles dominated a pair of opponents by large margins.
In the semifinals, All-Tournament selections Kinley Cryer and Maddie Brown were too much for Plato in a 56-39 victory.
Cryer made two, 3-pointers and scored 10 points while Brown scored the other nine to give Hartville an early 19-11 edge.
Cryer added two more 3-pointers before halftime.
In the third quarter, Brown’s six points helped Hartville maintain their edge before cruising to the win.
Cryer scored 23 points; Brown had 21 points; Katia Todd added four points; while both Carlyn Cantrell and Sarah Palmer scored two points.
In the opening round, the Lady Eagles’ defense held Koshkonong to 10 points or less in all four quarters during a 64-26 victory.
Brown scored 14 points in the first quarter as Hartville opened the game on a 16-2 run.
Cryer added 13 points and Brown scored 11 in a 27-point second quarter for a 43-9 halftime edge.
The Lady Eagles made three, 3-pointers in the second half as they cruised to the big win.
Brown had a team-high 28 points; Cryer scored 22; Cantrell and Palmer both had six points; while Todd had two points.
