Vision expressed for new performing arts center
A community meeting to discuss the concept of a performing arts center for Mountain Grove was held on Thursday, Aug. 22 at the Mountain Grove High School Arena. It was attended by a broad cross-section of community members and teachers from the music and drama departments.
Debbie Barbe began the meeting by giving a fascinating history of music and theater in Mountain Grove dating back to the founding of the town in the mid-1880s. Her presentation emphasized the importance of the performing arts in Mountain Grove’s history. This was followed by a passionate discussion of the benefits that a performing arts center would bring not only to the Mountain Grove schools and students, but also to this community. Many commented on the multiple uses a performing arts center could have including area and regional band, choir, and theater events, community theater, and even professional theater productions and concerts by nationally known artists.
