Scary incident with cows, cars on Highway 60

Some cows make their way down Highway 60 on Friday, April 3 after an accident between Cedar Gap and Mansfield.
Quite an ordeal occurred on Friday, April 4, just after 10 p.m., when a tractor-trailer hauling roughly 30 cattle, overturned on Highway 60 between Cedar Gap and Mansfield.
The driver was heading eastbound in the dark, rainy conditions when this happened. Several cows escaped the trailer. Tragically, some of them were hit by other traveling vehicles.
On 57-year-old male was driving his 2021 Chrysler Voyager westbound when he struck one of the cows in the roadway. He suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Cox South Hospital in Springfield.
His vehicle was also totaled.
Incidents similar to, but not as severe as this one, repeated more than once and many cows died as a result of the wrecks.
Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 60 had to be shut down for some time.
Some of the freed cows headed for the hills and were spotted on old Highway 60, which is the route many people had to drive that night to avoid the accident.
Right after passing Lead Hill church on the alternate road, a bull ran out in front of Travis and Emily Baker. This happened when they were on their way home coming from Mountain Grove at around 11 a.m.
Emily said, “He was beautiful.”
Even though emergency crews worked to clean up the aftermath of the event, not every detail was resolved.
On Saturday at 2:15 p.m., four cows were hoofing it coming up the on ramp, instead of down it, near Se-Ma-No Electric Cooperative.
Reportedly, no human lives were lost and some of the cattle survived.
