Radio stations now locally owned and operated
Doug and Amy Driesel, third and fourth from left, were joined by friends and family along with members of the Mountain Grove Area Chamber of Commerce during a recent ribbon cutting for radio stations 92.5 FM, the Ozark Mountain Groove (OMG), and 98.1 Hoss FM. The event was held at the main studio located at 800 N. Hubbard St. in Mountain Grove.
Though the radio station at 800 N. Hubbard St. in Mountain Grove has been under the direction of multiple radio groups since 92.5 FM The Grove ceased operation several years ago, most of the music reached the airwaves through syndication.
Those days are officially over as Doug Driesel and his wife, Amy, have purchased both 92.5 KFDS-FM and 98.1 KOZX-FM, making the pair of radio stations locally owned and operated.
Their purchase was celebrated with friends and family during a ribbon cutting held on Thursday, May 15 in conjunction with the Mountain Grove Area Chamber of Commerce.
His pastor also prayed for the venture during the celebration.
Doug Driesel brings to Mountain Grove his 50 years of experience working in the music industry, which includes a lot of in-studio work.
With a desire to one day purchase a radio station, the opportunity to do so in a town where his wife, Amy, was a teacher for 11 years made the opportunity even more special.
“It felt like home and it felt right,” he noted.
Though the studio on Hubbard St. has been vacant a lot in recent years, those days are officially over.
Doug Driesel currently has a morning show from 6-9 a.m., Monday-Friday, on 98.1 Hoss FM, KOZX. “It sat empty big time,” he added. “I want people to know that we’re here and back in the community. People can find us.”
The 98.1 Hoss FM features what is described as Red Dirt, Outlaw music. The tower for that station is in Cabool.
“Nobody in the area does it,” he said.
As for 92.5 FM, it is now called the Ozark Mountain Groove or “OMG.”
That station features a long ranging playlist that includes many older classic songs. “One song may be Johnny Cash and the next one could be Phil Collins,” he noted.
What makes the Ozark Mountain Groove special is that listeners can call 417-926-4650 and make a request to have a song added to the playlist.
Both radio stations can also be found online by visiting https://www.thehossfm.com/ as it features listen now options for both stations 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
