Nightmare on 13th St. to soon be over in Mountain Grove

For quite a long time, the physical condition of a portion of 13th St. between Hovis and N. Main has been in bad shape. Fortunately, the City of Mountain Grove will soon begin infrastructure improvements that includes both water line replacement and roadway resurfacing. City leadership began discussing plans in the fall of 2025.
The water line repair will begin in April with street work starting later in the summer with a plan for milling, which removes the top layer of deteriorated asphalt. This allows a new layer of pavement to be installed, which will extend the life of 13th St. The mill and overlay portion is slated to begin in July, weather pending.
Mountain Grove City Administrator Dakota Bates said the project will cost approximately $180,000. The project will be funded through transportation and street maintenance funds.
“This project allows us to address underground infrastructure and street conditions at the same time,” Bates said. “By having our crews complete the water line replacement in-house, we’re able to control costs while ensuring the work is done efficiently. Once that work is finished, the mill and overlay will give residents a much smoother and longer-lasting roadway.”
Bates added that coordinating both improvements in a single project helps minimize future disruptions. “Our goal is to be proactive with infrastructure. Tackling the water lines before resurfacing the street ensures we’re making a long-term investment rather than having to tear up new pavement later.”
