Community Foundation set for 12th golf tournament
The Mountain Grove Area Community Foundation will hold its 12th Annual golf tournament on Saturday, Sep. 27 at the Randel-Hinkle Municipal Golf Course. As in previous years, this will be a rtwo-person, 18-hole scramble with shotgun start times at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.
“This year’s tournament will have more opportunities for the players to win and the largest prizes in our history,” this according to Dr. David Barbe, Foundation president. “We will have four flights with first, second and third place cash prizes for the winners. First place teams in each flight will take home $400. $100 cash prizes will also go to the longest drive in seniors, juniors and women’s categories as well as $100 for closest to the cup on hole No. 2. Hole-in-one prizes include $5,000 in cash sponsored by Kim Norris-American Family Insurance, a Gravely Pro Turn 660 mower from Hawkins Home and Lawn and a 2025 Ford Escape from Wehr Ford & RV.”
Barbe noted that the tournament will again include a “Putt 4 Dough” contest at the end of the day with $1,000 going to the player closest to the cup and a Scotty Cameron putter to the second closest. Thanks to a generous donation from the City of Mountain Grove, they will also be giving away four additional Scotty Cameron putters. These will be given to a player in each flight chosen at random from those that weren’t on one of the winning teams in that flight. “So, lots of chances to win cash or great prizes even if you’re not a top golfer! The main idea is to come out, have fun, and support the Foundation,” Dr. Barbe stated.
Lunch will be provided for the golfers and a drawing for door prizes will be held at the end of the day. Entry fee is $200 per team. Teams should register soon. Registration can be done at Randel-Hinkle or by contacting Kim Norris, Dusty Schober or Dr. David Barbe. Early registration is encouraged. If a rental cart is needed, teams should indicate this at the time of registration.
“The golf tournament is the Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year. A good turnout for the tournament allows us to give more and larger grants back to non-profit organizations in our community including the schools, clubs, and other organizations,” according to Dusty Schober, Foundation treasurer. The Foundation especially wishes to thank the platinum level sponsors including Thomas Dentistry, 37° North Realty, Hawkins Home and Lawn, Wehr Ford and RVs, Stockmens Bank, Kim Norris American Family Insurance, Bill Clifton-Edward Jones, Shannon Heating and Cooling, Mercy Clinic and the City of Mountain Grove. Foundation Board members include Dr. David Barbe, Kim Norris, Dusty Schober, Liz Citron, Lisa Watson, Jared Moore, Jim Dickey, Matt Brown, Dr. Katie Peterson, Dr. Preston Thomas and Shawna Plummer.
