Lady Panthers knock off 15-win Plato Lady Eagles

The Plato Lady Eagles’ softball team has an astounding 15-4 overall record this season.
But one of those losses came at the hands of the Mountain Grove Lady Panthers, 6-4.
Lady Panthers’ pitcher Hannah Dowden was dominant on the mound as she was charged with no earned runs over seven innings and gave up four hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Offensively, Sophee Peterson had two RBIs and three runs scored; Lyla Golden had one RBI and one run scored; while Gabby Miller also scored one run.
Two days later, the Lady Panthers picked up a 14-1 win over Cabool in a South Central Association (SCA) Conference match-up.
Mountain Grove scored five runs in the first inning and six in the fourth inning to help them pull away from the Lady Bulldogs.
Landry Golden hit a two-run home run late in the victory. She finished the game with three hits, five RBIs and three runs scored.
Lyla Golden had one RBI and scored twice; Aubrey Gerla had one RBI and one run scored; Stella Benson and Peterson both scored twice; while both Makenzi Schober and Miller scored one run.
Payton O’Connor tossed five innings and gave up one earned run on one hit with five strikeouts and two walks.
Mountain Grove opened the week with a tough 15-5 home loss to rival Ava.
The Lady Panthers’ defense made 12 errors in the loss.
O’Connor had two RBIs and one run scored; Benson scored twice; Peterson had one RBI; while Chloe Slagle and Landry Golden both scored one run.
Dowden tossed five and two-thirds innings and gave up three earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
O’Connor tossed a third of an inning and gave up one earned run and walked three.
