Wright County golf teams set for spring

Three Wright County golf programs are looking to have some success this spring on golf courses throughout southwest Missouri.
Mountain Grove
A dozen Mountain Grove golfers are ready to tear up the links in the 2026 spring season.
Four-year senior Leedy Curtis returns and is joined by seniors Brady Anderson, Aiden Kumpula and Joseph Kennedy.
Juniors Mason Henry and Brady Harris and sophomore Kyler Kumpula are also returning.
Harris had the team’s best score a year ago with his 79 in Ava. Harris and Henry both earned SCA honors a season ago.
The remaining Panthers include Bryson Curtis, Jack Tyrrell, Elijah Montalvo, Grayson Short and Bryer Forrest.
“I would like for them to win some tournaments and compete for an SCA championship,” said Mountain Grove head coach Cody Whitaker. “I would like for them to make a push at state as well.”
Hartville
A relatively young Hartville golf program now has a roster of 11 golfers who were looking to take the Eagles to new levels this spring.
Senior Jace Hughes and junior Jesse Hughes both made it to the state championships last season.
Jace was also the Summit Conference champion while Jesse Hughes and now senior Jesse Vestal both earned All-Summit Conference honors.
Also returning to the program are juniors Kennedy Raney and Brent Mount.
The remaining members of the team include seniors Hunter Potter and Brock Jones; juniors Jacob Melton, Ike Meyer and Trent Boyd; and sophomore Maddox Jones.
“We will continue to improve as individuals and as a team,” said Hartville head coach Emily McDaris. “I expect to see both Hughes brothers continuing to show up near the top of the leaderboard at tournaments. Jesse Vestal has continued to make improvements and I see him shooting some lower rounds this year. “
Mansfield
The Mansfield golf team has two golfers this spring looking to make their mark on area courses this season.
Representing the Lions is senior Kadyn Ivy and junior Jace Headrick, though Jace is still sidelined from a basketball injury.
For Ivy, she has played two seasons and was an All-Summit Conference golfer a season ago. Jace will be in his third season as he played as a freshman in Gainesville.
“Last year, being the first year of the program and none of the golfers having much experience if any, our goal was to improve throughout the season and get to experience districts,” said Mansfield head coach Craig Campbell. “This year, expectations are a little higher with both Kadyn and Jace wanting to compete for a chance to go to state.”
Mansfield’s home course is Randel-Hinkle in Mountain Grove and the Lions will host a tournament on May 1.
