Mansfield track already having success in 2025

Mansfield’s Malachi Ussery gets ready to leap into the jump pit during the meet at Logan-Rogersville.
Around 20 Mansfield boys and girls athletes are looking to earn team points for the Lions this spring 2025 season.
The Lions feature 11 athletes, led by state cross country champion Nolyn Corder, who has won four state track medals during his career. All-state cross country runner Braxton Bolfing will also run in distance races and some sprints.
Malachi Ussery returns in the sprints and will be joined by seniors Blake Henry and Riley Pierson.
As for relays, the Lions will look to be competitive in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 this year.
Zach Perkins is the lone thrower. Meanwhile, Ussery returns after earning All-State honors in both the long jump and 300-mter hurdles.
“We look to be very competitive this year in Class 2,” said Mansfield head track and field coach Christian Gray. “We look for a few runners to step up to advance relays to state.”
Nine Lady Lions will be competing for the girls program.
Seniors Cali Lemons and Laikyn Ball with junior Addie Jones all return for the state-qualifying 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams.
Lemons was also ninth in the state in the hurdles last year, which was just her first year in the discipline.
Senior Faith Clark returns as she was All-State in the 800 and will be looking to improve her time in the 1,600.
Jones was a state qualifier in the triple jump and will also be a leader in the triple and long jump events.
“We have several great athletes for the girls, and hope this year is even better than last year,” Coach Gray said.
