Mansfield Lions get win over Sparta

It’s been a tough stretch for the Mansfield Lions’ baseball team as they have won just one of their past five contests.
Their win was a solid one though as they knocked off Sparta, 7-2.
Bryston Kingery tossed four innings and gave up one earned run on five hits with six strikeouts. Brayden Stuart tossed three scoreless innings and gave up no hits with seven strikeouts.
Offensively, John Roberrts had two RBIs and one run scored; Parker Moody had two RBIs; Cole Whorton had one RBI and scored twice; Blake Henry had one RBI and one run scored; while Braden Tate and Fisher Croney each had one RBI.
One of their losses came on the road in Forsyth, where they fell, 12-2, after the defense had six errors. Moody and Kingery each had one RBI while Tate and Garrison each scored one run. Whorton tossed two scoreless innings and gave up five hits with a walk. Kingery tossed two innings and gave up two earned runs on two hits with three strikeouts and three walks. Garrison tossed one and a third innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits.
Mansfield also had a 9-5 loss to Fordland after the Eagles scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Moody had one RBI and one run scored; Henry scored twice; and Charlie Grubbs, Kingbery and Whorton each had one RBI.
Grubbs did give up six earned runs on five hits with 12 strikeouts and four walks in the loss.
The Lions will get to face Fordland again in the first round of the Class 2, District 10 tournament in Gainesville at 4:30 p.m. on May15.
Mansfield’s record is 9-9 on the season.
