Mansfield Lions fall to Willow Springs
Back in early December, the Mansfield Lions’ basketball team beat a good Willow Springs squad by 11 points in the Mansfield Invitational semifinals.
The Bears returned to the Lions’ court last Friday, but results were much different this time as Willow Springs won this contest, 64-56.
For the Lions, they have now lost four games in a row and lost five of their last six.
Willow Springs jumped out to a quick 21-9 lead in the first quarter. Blake Henry scored four of his team’s points.
In the second quarter, Jace Headrick made a pair of 3-pointers to help the Lions cut the lead to eight at halftime. Seven different Lions did score points in the quarter.
Zach McCrite hit three, 3-pointers in a 20-point third quarter, but the Lions were unable to cut into the deficit.
Mansfield scored just seven points in the fourth quarter as their rally fell short in the eight-point loss.
Henry scored 12 points; Haven Proetz added 10; McCrite scored nine points; Charlie Grubbs added seven; both Riley Stidham and Headrick had six points; Malachi Ussery scored four points; while Kellen Campbell had two points.
