Mansfield beats Hartville to earn wood bat

The Mansfield Lions’ baseball team celebrates with the wood bat as they knocked off rival Hartville last week.

Mansfield won the “Battle of the Bat” last week when they held off a late Hartville rally for a 4-1 win over the rival Eagles.
Brayden Stuart had a solid game on the mound after tossing seven innings and giving up just one earned run on four hits with 10 strikeouts.
Parker Moody had two RBIs while Cole Whorton had one RBI and scored twice.
Hartville’s Trey Smith had one RBI and Brodyn Hulsey scored one run in the loss.
Hulsey also tossed four innings and gave up four earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and one walk.
Mansfield opened the week with 14-13 win in extra innings over Sparta after Fisher Croney scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Easton Thompson had four RBIs and two runs scored; Jaxon Clark had two RBIs and two runs scored; Whorton added two RBIs and one run scored; while Moody and Croney both scored twice.
Aiden Garrison tossed five innings and gave up five earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks.
Clark tossed three innings and gave up no earned runs on two hits with five strikeouts. Whorton tossed one inning and gave up one earned run on two hits with one strikeout and one walk.
Another impressive win came in an 18-0 blanking of Dora.
Croney had three RBIs and scored I’ve times; Thompson had three RBIs and scored twice; while Evan Roberts and Clark had two RBIs and one run scored; and Whorton scored three times.
Croney tossed three innings of shutout and hitless ball with nine strikeouts and one walk. Whorton tossed two shutout and hitless innings and had four strikeouts with one walk.
This past Saturday, Mansfield defeated Bakersfield, 13-4, after scoring nine runs in the top of the seventh inning.
Garrison had three hits, four RBIs and three runs scored while Clark had two RBIs and two runs scored. Whorton scored twice.
He also tossed six and two-third innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks
They finished the week with a 5-0 loss to Alton.
Mansfield’s record is 4-2 on the young fall baseball season.
