Hartville Eagles cruise past rival Mansfield

The Hartville Eagles welcomed rival Mansfield to their gym last Tuesday night and there was a lot of excitement in the packed house for the contest between the two rivals. Unfortunately for the Lions, Hartville completely overwhelmed them with an early 20-0 run before cruising to a 65-27 victory.
Malachi Ussery scored the Lions’ lone early basket to tie the score at 2-2. This was before Hartville made back-to-back 3-pointers. Mason Cogdill scored 10 points and both Boone Garrison and Harmon Johns added five points during their big run for a 22-2 first quarter edge. Hartville made 9-of-11 shots from the field in the quarter.
Johns had a big 3-point play in the second quarter and Mason Cogdill added five more points in a 17-point second frame to give the Eagles a 39-12 edge at halftime.
As a team, the Eagles made 16-of-21 shots from the field in the first half. Meanwhile, Mansfield made just 4-of-22 shots from the field.
In the win, Hartville made 23-of-34 shots from the field for a shooting percentage of 68%.
Mason Cogdill led Hartville with 19 points and four rebounds; Garrison added 10 points, five assists, three steals and two rebounds; Harmon Johns had 10 points, three rebounds and one assist; Jackson Ward had nine points, five rebounds, one steal, one block and one assist; Payton Cogdill scored eight points, five assists, four rebounds, two steals and one block; Jordan O’Quinn had four points; Truett Coryell scored three points and one steal; and Gus Sinning added two points and three rebounds.
It was a tough night for the Lions as their leading scorers had just five points. Jace Headrick had five points, three steals and two rebounds; Riley Stidham had five points and two rebounds; Fisher Croney had four points and one rebound; Blake Henry added four points, two steals and one rebound; Kellen Campbell had four points, two rebounds, one steal and one assist; and Ussery had two points and one rebound.
