Prayers sought for Hall family after incident in waterway
Organized prayer meetings have taken place at several locations in the Wright County area and at several area churches over the past week after a young girl was swept into a culvert under a bridge and become entrapped.
Back on Thursday, June 19, the daughter of Mansfield Superintendent Dr. Clint Hall and his wife, Shelby, was entrapped and Douglas County Sheriff deputies were called to the scene just off Highway PP.
According to their sheriff’s report, Deputy Three Eagles, the Goodhope Fire Department, a Cox ambulance and several citizens responded trying to reach the child from the downstream side.
The report said an off-duty Ozark County dispatcher tried to plug the culvert on the upstream side to cut off the water flow. They were then partially swept into the culvert and began yelling for help. Deputy Three-Eagles grabbed the dispatcher and pulled them up before the suction reportedly drug the deputy into the culvert. Deputy Three-Eagles traveled through it before colliding with the child inside the culvert that was pinned by the debris.
That collision knocked the child loose, resulting in the child and the deputy exiting the culvert into the creek. The off-duty dispatcher was also sucked into the tube and exited into the creek.
Lifesaving measures were quickly administered to the girl by both the deputy and first responder.
Both the deputy and off-duty dispatcher sustained injuries and transported to an area hospital before later being released.
As of press time, the Halls daughter, Scarlett, remains in critical condition at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
“Every text, message, call, comment and share has given us comfort and hope,” said the Halls on a social media post.
“We need every single person who loves our girl to pray big prayers. We can’t shoulder this alone. And we know we won’t have to, thanks to all of you.”
In a Sunday post, the Halls noted, “We continue to be blessed with an outpouring of support and prayers for our sweet Scarlett. We serve the almighty God and we are praying for a miracle that only He can provide. We have had so many people reach out with testimonies of hope where they were initially given none. We appreciate those more than you will ever know.”
