Hartville softball beats Mansfield, Norwood to start Summit Conference play undefeated

The Hartville Lady Eagles’ softball team opened Summit Conference play this past week by winning all three contests, including two victories over Wright County foes.
On Thursday, the Lady Eagles crushed rival Mansfield, 18-6, after the offense had 17 hits. A six-run top of the fifth inning helped Hartville pull away for good in the victory.
Sarah Palmer led the Lady Eagles, with two hits, three walks, three RBIs and two runs scored; Maddie Brown tallied three RBIs and two runs scored; Madisyn Stigall added three hits, two RBIs and scored twice; Brielle Kline had two RBIs and scored three times; both Haddie Ward and Saige Petty added two RBIs and one run scored; while both Katia Todd and Peyton Dudley had one RBI and scored three times.
On the mound, Petty tossed five earned runs on six hits with five strikeouts and six walks.
Kayley Kingery hit a solo home run for Mansfield and finished with one RBI and scored twice. Cayley Young had two RBIs and one run scored; Addie Jones had one RBI and one run scored; while Madisyn Bennett scored twice.
Brooklyn Dugger tossed five innings and gave up 12 earned runs on 17 hits with four strikeouts and seven walks.
Hartville opened the week by scoring two runs in the top of the fifth inning before holding on for a 4-2 victory over Norwood. Kline had two hits, two RBIs and one run scored; Todd scored twice; and Dudley scored one run. Palmer tossed seven innings and allowed one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts and six walks.
Clarisa Passot led the Lady Pirates with two RBIs while Mayci Calhoun scored both runs.
Maddie Campbell tossed seven innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with 11 strikeouts and one walk.
Hartville also picked up a win over Fordland after scoring two runs in both the fourth and sixth innings.
Stigall led Hartville with three RBIs and two runs scored; Palmer had three RBIs and one run scored; Todd scored three times; while Kline, Dudley and Brown each scored one run.  On the mound, Petty tossed a complete game shutout and gave up six hits with 10 strikeouts  and four walks.
Hartville is now 6-0 on the season.
