Hartville Lady Eagles’ softball team wins district title

The Hartville Lady Eagles’ softball team after winning the Class 2, District 4 championship.

The Hartville Lady Eagles’ softball team won the Class 2, District 4 championship last week after the No. 1 seed outscored a pair of opponents by a 16-4 margin.
They await the winner of the Class 2, District 3 Tournament on Oct. 26 with no time or location determined as of press time. A win there would punch their ticket to the Final Four with a 12 p.m. contest on Nov. 1 at the Killian Softball Complex in Springfield.
In the district championship game played at Morrisville against No. 3 seed New Covenant Academy, the Lady Eagles scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings before holding on for the 5-3 victory.
Sarah Palmer hit a big two-run home run and finished with two RBIs and one run scored.
Katia Todd also had two RBIs and scored one run while Haddie Ward, Brielle Kline and Claire Dickinson each scored one run. Ella Fairchild picked up the win on the mound after tossing seven innings and allowing one earned run on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
In the semifinals, the Lady Eagles battled the Sherwood Lady Marksmen and cruised to a 11-1 victory after taking advantage of four errors.
Kline hit a two-run home run and finished with three hits, three RBIs and scored three runs.
Dickinson had two RBIs and scored one run; both McKenzi Stigall and Todd had one RBI and scored twice; while Maddie Brown and Palmer each scored one run.
Fairchild tossed six innings and gave up one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Before districts, the Lady Eagles did pick up a 3-1 win over Marion C. Early.
In that win, Fairchild tossed seven innings and gave up one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
Offensively, Saige Petty, Brown and Kline each had one RBI while Beyah Widner, Todd and Palmer each scored one run.
They also had a pair of tough losses. They fell 13-1 to Doniphan as Palmer had the lone RBI and Kline scored the only run. On the mound, Palmer gave up five earned runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and one walk.
In a slug fest with Logan-Rogersville, the Lady Wildcats scored four runs in three different innings for a 16-10 win over the Lady Eagles. Stigall and Kline hit back-to-back solo home runs in the loss. Petty had two RBIs; Kline and Palmer each had one RBI and scored one run; Todd and Stigall each added one RBI and one run scored; Brown had one RBI; and Dickinson scored twice.
Fairchild gave up 16 earned runs on 16 hits with one strikeout and six walks over seven innings.
