Hartville Eagles win district championship

Hartville’s Gavin Stigall holds up the Class 2, District 9 first place plaque after the Eagles’ baseball team defeated Crocker to win the championship. Stigall’s teammates celebrated their first district title since the 2022 spring season.

For the first time since the 2022 spring season, the Hartville Eagles’ baseball team were crowned district champions after they won the Class 2, District 9 Tournament last Wednesday in Crocker.
The title highlighted a late season turn around for a club that had lost five of six contests before winning four in a row, including a 6-3 win over host Crocker in the championship game.
After the offense was hitting .300 in the fall, this spring the Eagles’ were batting around .200. But in entering districts as the top seed, head coach Bradey Welsh encouraged his team by focusing on what many call the new season.
“I think they forgot about it,” he said in regards to the spring struggles and their renewed focus and confidence in the postseason. “I think we were ready for the moment and they stepped up when they needed too.”
