Hartville Eagles pick up big Summit win over Seymour
The Hartville Eagles drew a difficult assignment of traveling to Seymour last week to take on a nine-win Tigers team in a tough Summit Conference match-up.
Fortunately, they overcame a four-point first quarter before making a 37-28 run to rally for a 41-37 victory.
Seymour led 11-4 heading into the second quarter before Payton Cogdill scored six big points. Mason Cogdill’s 3-pointer helped to cut the lead to 20-15 at halftime.
Hartville responded to the challenge in the third quarter as Harmon Johns had five points and both of the Cogdills scored four points during a 16-7 run.
The two teams traded baskets in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles would hold on late for the win over a solid Tigers team.
Payton Cogdill scored 14 points; Mason Cogdill added 13 points; Jackson Ward had six points; Johns scored five points; and Boone Garrison added three points.
Two days before the big win, the Eagles hosted Fair Grove and were on the wrong side of a 53-45 decision.
Unlike the Seymour game, the Eagles’ offense got off to a strong start against Fair Grove.
They scored 19 points in the first quarter with the help of Payton Cogdill’s nine points and Mason Cogdill’s two, 3-pointers.
Fair Grove did cut the lead to just four points at halftime in spite of Mason Cogdill and Ward both scored four points in the second quarter.
A pair of Fair Grove 3-points in the third quarter cut the lead down to one point.
Hartville’s offense was then held to just four points in the final eight minutes as they fell by eight.
Mason Cogdill scored a team-high 13 points; Ward added 10; Payton Cogdill had nine points; Johns had seven points;; and Garrison scored six points.
