Hartville Eagles knock off Conway
The Hartville Eagles’ baseball team handed a now 20-win Conway team just one of their four losses this season last week when they shutout the Bears, 2-0.
Gus Sinning tossed a gem as he held the Bears’ explosive lineup scoreless through seven innings and gave up just one hit with 15 strikeouts.
Both runs were scored in the bottom of the third inning as Truett Coryell and Gus Sinning both scored one run.
Another win came on May 1 when they traveled to Morrisville and left with a 5-4 win over Marion C. Early.
Jacob Meglan’s walk cored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning.
Brock Jones had one RBI and one run scored while Gavin Stigall had one RBI.
Brodyn Hulsey tossed five innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk. Heston Lowery tossed two shutout and no-hit innings in relieve and struck out two with two walks.
Back on April 28, the Eagles lost in Licking to a now 20-win team, 12-4.
Gus Sinning hit a solo home run and scored three times while Hunter Walker, Cole Sinning and Coryell each had one RBI.
Gus Sinning gave up six earned runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and five walks.
Hartville had a tough 6-2 road loss in Houston. Gus Sinning had one RBI and one run scored in the loss.
Lowery tossed six innings and gave up five earned runs on nine hits with two strikeouts and four walks.
Hartville also had a 2-1 loss on the road against New Covenant Academy.
Gus Sinning had one RBI and Stigall scored one run in the loss.
Hulsey tossed five innings and gave up two earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
Gus Sinning had a scoreless inning in relief and struck out two with one walk and no hits allowed.
Hartville is now 11-9 on the season.
They are the No. 1 seed in the Class 2, District 9 Tournament to be played in Crocker.
They host either Plato or Laquey in the semifinals at 4:30 p.m. on May 20.
A win gives them a match-up with Crocker (No. 2), Richland (No. 3) or Newburg (No. 6) in the finals at 5 p.m. on May 21.
