Hartville Eagles get win over Sparta, enter districts as No. 1 overall seed
The Hartville Eagles’ baseball team ended their regular season schedule last week with a solid 6-2 victory over Sparta in a Summit Conference match-up.
Against the Trojans, Hartville scored three runs in the first and fourth innings to hold off Sparta.
Gus Sinning was sharp on the mound as he allowed just one earned run on six hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks. Brodyn Hulsey had a scoreless, no-hit inning of work and struck out two with one walk.
Offensively, Gus Sinning had two RBIs and one run scored; Hulsey had two RBIs; Gavin Stigall scored twice; Jacob Meglan had one RBI and one run scored; and Brock Jones had one RBI.
Cole Sinning and Coryell each scored one run.
Hartville is the No. 1 seed in the Class 2, District 9 Tournament that started in the semifinals just after press time in Crocker with a game against Plato.
A win gives the 12-9 Eagles a district finals match-up with either No. 2 Crocker (17-8) or No. 3 Richland (9-8) at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21.
