Hartville baseball wins eight of nine by 68-12 margin
The Hartville Eagles’ baseball team found their swagger over the last few weeks of the fall season as they won eight of nine games and outscored their opponents by a combined 68-12 margin.
One win was a 10-0 victory over rival Mansfield as Hartville pitcher Gus Sinning tossed a no-hitter through five shutout innings. He also had 11 strikeouts and two walks.
Brock Jones paced the Eagles with three RBIs and two runs scored; Jacob Meglan had two RBIs and scored one run; Cole. Sinning had two RBIs; Gavin Stigall and Hunter Lowery had one RBI and scored twice; while Brodyn Hulsey had one RBI.
Mansfield’s Fisher Croney tossed two and two-thirds innings, giving up five earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and five walks. Aiden Garrison gave up one earned run on three hits in two and a third innings. He had two strikeouts and two walks.
Charlie Grubbs gave up one earned run on three hits with one walk.
On Oct. 4, the Eagles crushed Sparta, 11-1.
Gus Sinning hit a two-run home run and finished with three hits, three home runs and one run scored. Stigall added three RBIs and two runs scored; Truett Coryell had two RBIs and one run scored; Cole Sinning had one RBI and scored twice; Lowery had one RBI and one run scored; while Maddox Jones scored twice.
On the mound, Hunter Walker tossed four shutout innings and gave up two hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Coryell tossed two-thirds of an inning and gave up one hit with one strikeout and two walks.
Early last week, the Eagles avenged an earlier loss to Galena and beat the Bears on the road, 13-3.
Hulsey had three RBIs and one run scored; Lowery, Maddox Jones, Coryell and Lowery each had two RBIs and scored one run; Meglan scored twice; and Gus Sinning and Brock Jones each had one RBI and scored twice.
Lowery tossed five shutout innings and gave up four hits with four strikeouts.
Hartville added a 4-0 shutout win in Conway as Gus Sinning tossed a complete game shutout and allowed two hits with 16 strikeouts and two walks.
He also had two RBIs while Maddox Jones and Hulsey each had one RBI.
In a 6-1 win over Bakersfield, Gus Sinning tallied four hits, three RBIs and one run scored. Meglan had one RBI; Coryell scored three times and added three hits; and Stigall scored twice and also had three hits.
Coryell tossed six shutout innings and gave up two hits with 15 strikeouts and two walks.
Hartville added a big 5-0 win over Marion C. Early as Hulsey had two RBIs and Brock Jones had one RBI and scored twice. Cole Sinning had one RBI and scored one run.
Lowery tossed five innings and gave up two earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts and three walks. Stigall tossed two shutout innings and gave up one hit with one strikeout.
In a 6-0 win over Blue Eye, Gus Sinning had two RBIs and one run scored while Meglan added one RBI and scored one run.
Gus Sinning tossed seven shutout innings and gave up three hits with 16 strikeouts and one walk.
Back on Sep. 16, Hartville cruised past Fordland, 12-0.
Stigall had four RBIs and scored one run; Maddox Jones and Walker had two RBIs and one run scored; Gus Sinning scored twice and added one RBI; while both Cole Sinning and Brock Jones scored twice.
Gus Sinning tossed a no-hitter through five innings, giving up no earned runs with 12 strikeouts and two walks.
Another big win came on Sep. 12 when the Eagles beat Gainesville on the road, 5-2.
Gus Sinning had one RBI and one run scored while Hulsey and Meglan each had one RBI.
Coryell tossed two shutout innings and gave up no hits with four strikeouts and seven walks. Stigall tossed two shutout innings and gave up one hit.
In the Crane Wood Bat Tournament, the Eagles had the wins over Fordland and Blue Eye. Their lone loss was a 5-1 defeat to Galena.
Meglan scored the lone run while Coryell tossed five and a third innings, giving up one earned run on three hits with nine strikeouts and five walks. Stigall tossed one and two-thirds innings and gave up thee earned runs on five hits with one strikeout.
