Eagles’ baseball gets pair of quality wins
The Hartville Eagles’ baseball team picked up a pair of wins recently against two teams with a combined 12-3 record to start their season. Of course two of those three losses were a result of the Eagles knocking them off.
Back on Sep. 3 against a Licking team that was fourth place in Class 3 last spring, the Eagles scored three runs in three different innings to beat the now 7-2 Wildcats, 11-1.
Truett Coryell hit a solo home run for one RBI and one run scored; Brock Jones added one RBI and scored three times; Brodyn Hulsey had two RBIs and one run scored; Gavin Stigall had three hits and scored twice; both Jacob Meglan and Hunter Walker had one RBI; while Maddox Jones and Cole Sinning each scored one run.
Coryell was dominant on the mound tossing six scoreless innings and giving up six hits with nine strikeouts and five walks.
Another big win came in the Summit Conference last week when they defeated Fordland to hand them their lone loss of the fall, 3-1.
Coryell tossed three scoreless innings and gave up one hit with three strikeouts and one walk. Gus Sinning tossed four innings and allowed one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Meglan had one RBI and one run scored; Stigall scored twice; and Coryell scored one run.
Another big win came on Sep. 5 when the Eagles traveled to Seymour and left with a 12-4 win.
Hartville put six runs up in the opening inning and never looked back with their 16-hit night.
Cole Sinning and Hulsey had two RBIs and one run scored; Gus Sinning and Walker had one RBI and scored twice; Coryell scored three times; Maddox Jones had one RBI and one run scored; Stigall had one RBI; and Brock Jones scored twice.
Gus Sinning tossed five and a third innings and allowed one earned run on five hits with nine strikeouts . Stigall tossed one and two-thirds innings of shutout ball, allowing three hits with two strikeouts.
Back in the Conway Fall Classic, the Eagles defeated Dora, 11-1.
Leading the 15-hit attack was Gus Sinning with two RBIs and two runs scored. Brock Jones and Hulsey had two RBIs and one run scored. Meglan added one RBI and two runs scored; Maddox Jones, Coryell and Walker had one RBI and one run scored; Lowery had one RBI; and Stigall scored twice.
Lowery tossed six innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with eight strikeouts. Stigall tossed one scoreless inning and gave up no hits with two strikeouts.
Hartville lost 3-0 to Gainesville in that same Classic. Meglan had the team’s lone base hit in the loss. Gus Sinning tossed seven innings and gave up just one earned run on five hits with 13 strikeouts and one walk. The defense made three errors in the loss.
