Wiener Mountain Trading Co. opens in Grove

Greg Westfall, 56, graduated from Mountain Grove High School in 1986. Today, he’s giving back to the community through delectable meals served straight from the kitchen of Wiener Mountain Trading Company.
According to Westfall, Wiener Mountain Trading Co. was founded because of a perceived need for an eatery that offers unique items.
“I wanted to put in a simple food place with items that most places don’t serve around here,” he said. “I had about 50 of my daughter’s friends help me come up with some ideas [for the name], and the name Wiener Mountain Trading Company won.”
The eatery operates primarily on a to-go format but offers some indoor seating, with outdoor seating to be added. The food, which is to be self-served, is almost entirely made from scratch.
The menu is rich with options. For breakfast, patrons can dine on buttermilk biscuits, sausage gravy, burritos, and Texas-style kolaches (sausage in a roll).
“We also offer a couple of breakfast bowls with eggs, sausage, cheese, crowns and sausage gravy,” Westfall said. “For lunch, of course, we have a fulfilling quarter-pound all-beef hot dog that we can dress up many ways.”
He said two of the most popular ways to top hot dogs are tavern meat—loose ground beef—and Texas-style chili, chili without beans.
“The tavern meat is popular in Iowa and the Dakotas,” Westfall said, “and I hope people try it here because I think it will catch on.”
The all-beef hotdogs, chili, and burgers are available for lunch and dinner, as well as a variety of other options, including chicken sandwiches and fried catfish, both of which can be ordered with homemade coleslaw.
The location also offers spaghetti red, which is chili and angel hair pasta with Parmesan cheese, and the ChiFrito, a large burrito filled with chili, onions, jalapeños, tomatoes and Fritos.
Wiener Mountain Trading Co. sources the majority of its ingredients locally.
“We have done some specials, such as chicken on a stick and sausage biscuits, and will continue that until we get a feel for everyday offerings,” Westfall said, and added that he plans to offer frozen custard as well. He said what makes his menu unique is that the majority of the items on the menu aren’t provided at other local establishments. As a Wright County native, Westfall said the business has allowed him to reconnect with people in the area.
“Since I grew up here, I’m having a good time with all the people I know,” he said.
Wiener Mountain Trading Co.’s winter hours are Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m.-2 p.m. Westfall stated he will implement a later closing time when spring rolls around, as well as ribeye and baked potatoes on Tuesday nights and seafood boil on Saturdays.
Westfall said he’s lucky to be a business owner in a community like Wright County.
“We want to make good food that working families can eat – and eat well,” he said.
He added that the restaurant is seeking additional kitchen staff and food preparation workers. For inquiries, contact the number listed below.
